Geekcats — my own little world

An original cartoon IP I drew, shaped and grew from zero — purely from love of cute, characterful design. The Geekcats became a community, a merchandise line, and eventually the mobile games Cat Match and Back to Home.

01

How it began

Building an original cartoon IP from zero — creating consistent, high-quality characters and content twice weekly while simultaneously managing an e-commerce operation, customer service, and growing a community of fans with no marketing budget.

02

How I grew it

Developed a sustainable creative production system: weekly strip schedules, a character bible, merchandise design and production, and active community engagement. The IP evolved over 11 years, eventually becoming the foundation for two mobile games.

03

Where it went

Built a brand with 100,000+ Facebook fans, a Top Blog award (2010), and an active merchandise line. The original characters were later adapted into two mobile games (Cat Match and Back to Home), proving the long-term viability of the IP.

Where it all started — everyday cat life with Mike, Nina and Isis. Originally published in Portuguese on geekcats.com and Facebook — open a strip to read it in English.

From comics to playable games

The Geekcats jumped off the page into two mobile games — here's what I made for each one.

Game 01 · Casual puzzle · Android & iOS

Cat Match

The Geekcats turned into a colourful, easy-to-learn puzzle game.

Cat Match is a casual mobile game built in Unity and released in Brazil, where it reached around 1,000 daily active players.

I was responsible for all of the visual content — characters, UI, icons, textures and in-game assets — and I also built the levels and the progression system, turning a base Unity template into a fully customised game with its own identity.

Game 02 · 3D endless runner · Mobile

Back to Home

The Geekcats in 3D, dashing through the city streets.

Back to Home is a stylized endless runner made in Unity, where I redesigned the whole visual identity of a template project.

I replaced the default characters with the Geekcats — fully modeled, textured and animated for real-time mobile — and adapted the UI to match the new, playful theme. The game was released only briefly before being cancelled, but it was a great exercise in turning a template into a unique, stylized 3D game.
